Wedding Photography in Suffolk
The most easterly of our counties, Suffolk has a magnificent landscape encompassing ancient heaths, wildlife-rich wetlands and a stunning coastline. The towns and villages are steeped in ancient history and provide a wealth of interesting wedding venue opportunities. Whether you’re seeking grand halls, historic buildings, quiet rooms or something with a sporting twist, Suffolk is the county that caters to all tastes. Below are some of my favourite Suffolk wedding venues that you might like to consider for your special day:
Seckford Hall, Woodbridge
This Tudor hotel boasts 34 acres of beautiful countryside and a refurbishment has brought all accommodation up to modern standards – although the Tudor room is still home to a beautiful four-poster bed (circa 1587). Seckford Hall offers a full-service approach for discerning couples so you can choose a marquee package complete with heating and linen or treat yourself to a leisure package and indulge in manicures, pedicures and a make-up session.
Hengrave Hall, Bury St Edmunds
If you’re after a sweeping tree-lined drive and grand rooms then Hengrave Hall is the venue for you. The banqueting hall, library, dining room and long gallery are all licensed giving you wonderful flexibility and Hengrave also has its own church. Outside in the gardens, there’s a licensed summer house and blooms for every season – including more than a thousand David Austin Roses.
Elms Barn, Beccles
With the option to take over the entire 17th century venue, gardens and marquee for three days, Elms Barn is ideal for an English-country-house style wedding. There are also three self-catering cottages for guest accommodation and an in-house chef for your comfort and convenience. Outside the venue, the ancient moat, lakes and gardens make for a stunning backdrop to your wedding break.
Haughley Park Barn, Stowmarket
The collection of barns at Haughley Park caters for all your ceremony needs with the added benefit of being safely tucked away from the outside elements – ideal for winter weddings. The on-site farmhouse allows ten guests the ease of staying on site and the opportunity to further explore Haughley Park.
Ickworth House, Horringer
The West Wing at Ickworth House is a grand, Grade I listed building boasting a striking rotunda and Italianate gardens. With an enormous 1800 acres, there will be
no trouble finding a spot for your photo shoot! The amount of available space also gives you the opportunity to play croquet on the historic lawns or set up an extra marquee amidst the wild flower meadow.
The Granary, Sudbury
If you’re looking for a simple, intimate option The Granary’s Georgian riverside venue allows you to arrive and depart by boat. This quaint venue’s ceremonies take place on the second storey allowing beautiful balcony views of the river – and it’s a great spot to throw confetti!
Bruisyard Hall, Bruisyard (nr Saxmundham)
A magnificent country house with a beautifully refurbished medieval barn, Bruisyard Hall can be exclusively yours for a weekend or mid-week wedding. Set in 700 acres of stunning Suffolk countryside, the Hall is a 14th century manor house boasting twelve luxurious bedrooms and plenty of options for relaxation. The family-led team are able to help create your perfect wedding, whether you choose a small and intimate or large and all inclusive celebration!
Somerleyton Hall, Lowestoft
A big hall for your big day! The most easterly venue in the UK, Somerleyton is a truly original house originating from the Jacobean period. Restored and decorated in the Italianate style during the early Victorian era, its two towers continue to dominate the skyline. The west of the hall has a restored Nesfield parterre, which offers a beautiful opportunity for creating signature images for your wedding album.
Helmingham Hall, Stowmarket
A moated Tudor Hall surrounded by 400 acres of land and Grade I Listed gardens, Helmingham Hall offers a stunning backdrop to your wedding day. If a country wedding is what you’re looking for, The Coach House on the estate, with its high ceilings and large windows, is fully licensed to hold civil ceremonies. For religious ceremonies, St Mary’s Church on the edge of the estate is just a short walk from the Hall and Gardens. There’s also the option to hold your celebration, ceremony or blessing in the gardens and parkland.
